报告摘要:The principal challenges facing the development of lithium ion batteries (LIBs) and sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) for hybrid electric/plugin-hybrid (HEV/PHEV) vehicles and for off-peak energy storage are cost, safety, cell energy density (voltage × capacity), rate of charge/discharge, and service life. There are exciting developments in new positive electrode (cathode) materials to replace the LiCoO2 for use in the LIBs over the past decade. Vanadium oxide cathodes with high theoretical capacity and phosphate-based cathodes with excellent cycling stability, safety, emerge as highly suitable candidates. To obtain a noticeable improvement in their electrochemical performance, it is encourage to develop nanoarchitectures by providing shorter mass transport distance, higher electrode/electrolyte contact interfaces, and better accommodation of strain upon lithium(sodium) uptake/release. Another effective approach is to design materials with conductive carbon network, providing an efficient electron pathway to offer better electrical contacts. In this seminar, I will summarize recent progress of our group in the structural design, chemical synthesis, and electrochemical properties of nanostructured vanadium oxide and phosphate cathodes (i.e., V2O5, LiFePO4, Li3V2(PO4)3, Na3V2(PO4)3, etc.) with nanocarbon networks for advanced LIB and SIB applications.
